Breast Surgery
Breast Augmentation SurgeryBreast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enlarge small breast or breast that has lost their fullness. For patients with mild to moderate breast sagging, it will also improve the shape of breast and the positioning of the nipple. Among the gender reassignment surgery, the breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures and we can do it together with SRS. Types of implants Breasts that are too small or too big can both cause problems for women. For small breasts, atrophic breasts after breast feeding, and a mild degree of breast ptosis can be corrected easily by breast implants with small scars in the armpits. Women who have giant breasts and desire smaller ones will have to accept some visible scarring on the breasts after the operation -- but it is worth it. Western people usually develop nice scars but Asian people usually develop keloid scar tissue. Breast Augmentation Risks Breast implants are medical devices. Like all medical devices, they provide certain benefits but also pose certain health risks. If you are considering breast implant surgery it is very important to understand the nature and extent of these risks before you make a decision. The decision to choose breast implant surgery can only be made by you in consultation with your doctor. Breast Implants and Breast Cancer In one of the largest studies on the long-term health effects of silicone breast implants, researchers from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Md., found no association between breast implants and the subsequent risk of breast cancer. The study is published in the November issue of Cancer Causes and Control. Breast implants first appeared on the market in 1962. Manufacturers initially assumed that the implants were biologically inactive and therefore would have no harmful effects. However, over the past two decades there have been a number of reports of connective tissue disorders and cancers among implant patients. Breast Reconstruction There seem to be many sources of statistics on breast reconstruction, but none of them appear to be comprehensive. No doubt this is due to the fact that reconstruction is done by private cosmetic surgeons who may be registered with several different umbrella groups. Breast Reduction All operations have some risk and breast reduction surgery is no exception. Before proceeding, be sure that you have thoroughly researched the procedure and thought through your motivation for permanently changing the shape and size of your breasts. The main risks in breast reduction surgery are swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, a scar and numbness or a change in feeling touch. A primary concern, which is specific to breast reduction surgery, is damage to the blood supply of the nipple and a heavy scar. This means you could significantly reduce or lose your nipple sensation for life. Some operative techniques preserve at least the possibility of breastfeeding while other techniques eliminate any such possibility. If this is a major concern it should be discussed in detail with your surgeon. |
