The first step in taking proper care of your teeth is simply brushing your teeth. Dentists will always recommend that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, maybe even more. When you brush your teeth properly, the toothbrush is meant to remove any plaque that has made its residence on the surface of your teeth. Picking out a toothbrush is not nearly as important as picking out the right toothpaste, as it can come in many different types. Some toothpastes fight tartar better than others while some toothpastes are meant for sensitive teeth, the important thing to remember is that the toothpaste contains fluoride. Fluoride is one of the most common ingredients used in toothpaste to fight cavities. When that happens, you may end up losing the affected tooth altogether. Most dentists actually provide emergency dental care, particularly to patients that they have already treated in the past. Any broken or chipped pieces of tooth that you find after an incident should be brought to the dentist. In some cases, these pieces can actually be reattached to the tooth through a simple procedure.
