Drug Pills
rug or pill that you take has the potential to be both beneficial and detrimental to your health. Doctors, pharmacists and other medical experts are trained to weigh the risks and benefits that each drug poses to a would-be user, and it is this training that helps them arrive at a decision as to whether or not a particular pill should be prescribed to a patient. Doctors usually prescribe potentially dangerous drugs to a patient whose existing health problem poses a far greater risk than the drug itself, and medication in such cases are very closely monitored by the prescribing doctor. One such condition that usually requires drastic measures is obesity. This condition has been linked to a number of serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiac disease. These three health problems, in turn can result to kidney and liver failure as well as increase your risk of developing arthritis. Obesity, therefore, can be the first step towards the downward spiral of your health. For the reasons cited above, weight loss pills are often prescribed for obese patients. Although these pills have been known to pose a lot of dangers to users, your doctor may feel that the health benefits you will get in combating obesity far outweigh the health risks posed by weight loss pills. These pills work primarily by suppressing your appetite, thereby making you eat less and lose considerable weight quickly. Chemotherapy Pills Chemotherapy is treatment that is generally used in the world to treat cancer. Chemotherapy pills are very effective for treating colorectal cancer as intravenous treatment. The new research tells that patient with advanced cancer need to accept this treatment than other drugs run through intravenously. Oral chemotherapy gives fewer side effects than that of drugs receiving intravenously. Patient receiving oral chemotherapy may have better life than those receiving drugs intravenously. However, the intravenous drug 5-fluorouracil is the standard treatment whether it is used in combination or alone. Chemotherapy treatment gives some side effects, whether it is used as intravenous treatment or oral. Capecitabine is the pill used to treat colorectal cancer, gives some fewer side effects. It is also known by the brand name Xeloda that causes tumor to shrink but causes many side effects also. Capecitabine converts into 5-FU after absorbing that help to minimize the tumors. Patients in IV regimen, receives dose of 5-fluorouracil in combination with leukovorin as a daily dose for five days in four week cycle. The collective results proved that the patients taking Xeloda live longer for an average of 23.1 months while those who are receiving IV chemotherapy live for an average of 22.5 months. Xeloda in combination or alone is very effective it is used as IV5-FU/FA crosswise in different stages of colorectal cancer and other GI cancers. Xeloda is the standard care for CRC patients. |
